I’ve always loved the Louden Wainwright tune T.S.M.N.W.A. [They Spelled My Name Wrong Again] in which he laments over misspellings of his name on marquee after marquee (“Wainwright has two Ws”). Now I can kinda relate: Before we played on KPIG radio’s live music show, Please Stand By, back in February, I wasn’t sure if I was actually booked, because they kept announcing “Michael Go-Shay” on the promos all week. (A stray “i” entered my last name, and the creative folks there, bless their hearts, thought I was a distant relative of songwriter Mary Gauthier.)

A couple of weeks ago, we played up the coast at the San Gregorio General Store. Great place, and it’s always a fun time being up there. But for the announcement on the web site, the i’s definitely had it:

If you’re curious, my name’s just “Gaither”. Long A. Silent I. Soft “th”. No harm in a couple of misspellings, though. It’s also nice to have something in common with great Louden Wainwright (two Ws, remember). By the way, the San Gregorio gig went great.
