Side gigs are important when you’re playing music. My day job always revolved around writing, particularly back in my days of corporate life. These days I’m doing a lot of freelance work, including a regular music column in the Santa Cruz Sentinel and creating the web/social content for KPIG radio (I’m also a relief, on-air DJ when they need me.)

I just picked up another part time thing writing for Beach Neighbors magazine. It’s a monthly mailer that goes from mid- to south-Santa Cruz county. It features a cover story on a local family or individual as well as a few smaller stories on local events and noteworthy happenings.

Funny how things happen: I initially contacted them to see if our Spring Fair, animal–rescue fundraiser could be listed on their Events page. They happened to need another writer at that point and hired me. When the end of February rolled around, they suddenly needed a cover story, so they wrote one about me, my amazing wife, and my band. Humbled and happy to get this kind of coverage. Also grateful for this new regular gig.
