When you’re lucky enough to somehow be able to write songs, record songs, learn songs AND take them out to play for people, you play everywhere: Wineries, breweries, venues and house concerts. Sometimes, something especially amazing comes along.

Case in point: Last Thursday a gentleman named Steven flew his girlfriend Heather out from Florida, under the guise of “let’s have you meet my family.” They’d been together for two years. Unawares to Heather, Steven had already contacted Chris Schmauch of GoodEye PhotographyI’d worked with Chris on a similar proposal outing in Davenport a few years ago – to meet the happy couple in Carmel and document the big question. (I did a similar event last year, also in Carmel.)

Steven and I worked together and I learned a song that he and Heather liked: Ben Rector’s “I Like You”. Chris and I arrived at the entrance to Soberanes Trail in the Carmel Highlands. The couple showed up on time, her kids in tow (the kids were in on it), and they walked right past us – we just played random “guitar guy” and photographer, me noodling and Chris documenting the coast.

I started playing, Chris turned the camera to Steven and Heather, I played the tune, and Steven took a knee. She said YES, and cheers and photos ensued.

It’s pretty amazing, being a tiny part of such an amazing event. Many thanks to Steven for inviting me to add a little something, and always great to work with Chris. Congrats, Steve and Heather!!!

Random Fun Fact: I’m six for six in the SHE SAID YES category on these. 😉
