After a short break – we skipped January – we’re back on schedule for the monthly open mic this Thursday at the Wooden Nickel Bar and Grille from 7-10 pm in Watsonville. There’s no rain in the forecast, which means you have no excuse to get out. Except with no rain, it’ll be cold. The wood stove in the Nickel will likely be going full blast, however, so we’ll be warm and cozy inside. Plus, you’ll have the added bonus of your guitar smelling like Mesquite when you get home.

(Every time I play my Martin lately, I’m craving BBQ. Coincidence?)

Seriously, if you’ve never played out much, this is a great little room with a very supportive crowd. Newcomers are always impressed at the talent, and we get a nice mix of regulars, new folks, original songs, and cover tunes.

Besides the music, the Nickel is known for both its great food and the obscenely-huge portions it serves. And this one night a month, the musicians take over and have our own little party. Kids are welcome, too. Hope you can make it out to this one. It’s been awhile since us locals got together and played there. And as always, please let me know in advance if you’d like a particular slot/time. It really does help me plan and manage this thing.
