These podcasts for me are a little like songs: Each one is a project unto itself, and the newest one tends to be my favorite. Case in point: My recent sitdown with local songwriter Mira Goto. (Technically, she’s still local, though these days she’s splitting her time between Santa Cruz CA and Nashville TN.) As is often the case with these things, Mira and I had a ton of friends in common but somehow had never met in person. “Songs and Stories” to the rescue!

Besides being a wickedly talented songwriter and performer, Mira also has a real handle on using social media to spread the word on what she does – and that’s what I wanted to focus on (in addition to her music, of course) in this interview. We talk in depth about the usual platforms (Twitter, Instagram) and then delve a bit into Periscope (which I’m starting to use since she and I talked).

But of course, all of these tools and apps would not matter if we didn’t start with great source material, and that’s the edge that Mira has. Great songs, several awards from West Coast Songwriters, and the well-earned attention from people who are working with her to help her get to the next level. Lots of music in this episode, including a live performance of “Crazy Cat Lady” (a personal favorite) and the studio cut of “Next Life,” her new duet with Marc Broussard.

You can purchase and download Mira’s songs from iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify.
