I think the most fun I have with this show is when I get the opportunity to interview an artist I’ve never really met before. We get to “free form” talk shop, and it’s always interesting to see where the conversation goes. Case in point: Songwriter Lauren Wahl. She and I briefly met about a year ago when we both played on KPIG Radio’s live music show, “Please Stand By”. We kept in touch, and then finally decided to just have her do an episode of the podcast, so we could really talk.

Last year, Lauren released her first EP of original tunes, “Hello Baby”. It’s a super collection of tunes that steps between folk-acoustic, singer-songwriter, and a contemporary adult-contemporary vibe. Highly recommended. Early next year, Lauren plans to record a longer project, then release it in the summer. In this interview, we talked about how her first real band came together and how she made such a fine first record without a set-in-stone plan (spoiler: the band came together after she booked studio time, and they made it work). We also spent time talking about the interesting challenge of what happens when you’re booking a whole band: You quickly learn that with everyone’s busy schedules, sometimes you get the whole band, and sometimes you just take who’s available. It’s all good, and keeps performing live a very cool and dynamic endeavor.

Want to see Lauren live? Lauren is part of the series “Women Who Folking Rock”. (I LOVE that name!) On Wednesday, October 24th, she’ll be at Michael’s on Main, along with Nancy Cassidy (who was on this site in episode #179 of “Songs and Stories”), Janean Christine Mariani, and Janet Croteau, who books this series.
