For this year&#8217;s Reader&#8217;s Choice Awards, two new categories were added: <strong>Best Annual Event<\/strong> and <strong>Best Local Musician<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Santa Cruz County Fair came in as Best Local Event. And my good pal Alex Lucero grabbed honors for Best Local Musician. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pageturnpro.com\/NORCAL-Community-Newspaper-Group\/110814-Santa-Cruz-Sentinel-Readers-Choice-2023\/sdefault.html#page\/22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Here&#8217;s an article<\/a> I wrote for the paper on both winners.<\/p>\n<p>The kicker? Yours truly came in SECOND PLACE in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pageturnpro.com\/NORCAL-Community-Newspaper-Group\/110814-Santa-Cruz-Sentinel-Readers-Choice-2023\/sdefault.html#page\/26\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Best Local Musician category<\/a>. The survey was determined completely by write-in votes (no checkboxes or suggestions), which really makes the honor all that more special. I was more than a little shocked, humbled&#8230;and happy.<\/p>\n<p>Again, thanks to everyone who took the time to vote, and especially everyone who thought of me and my New Best Friends.
