Awhile back I was on the air at <a href=\"https:\/\/michaelgaither.bandcamp.com\/track\/monkey-town\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">KPIG Radio<\/a>. A listener called in and said. &#8220;I have a traffic update for you&#8221;. This was in March. We&#8217;re all sheltered in place. There was NO traffic. He continued: &#8220;There&#8217;s a DUI checkpoint at the corner of &#8216;kitchen&#8217; and &#8216;hallway'&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p>It took me about half a beat, and then I got it. Cracked up. And. I announced it on the air, along with a drinking song, several times that afternoon. I then realized I had the beginning of a song. <\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/track=1964961489\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" seamless><a href=\"https:\/\/michaelgaither.bandcamp.com\/track\/day-drinking-days\">Day Drinking Days by Michael Gaither<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Since we were all sheltered in place and playing by the rules then, heading up to the studio wasn&#8217;t an option. I figured this would be a good experiment. I had the title immediately: &#8220;Day Drinking Days&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p>I cowrote it over Skype with my pal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johncirillo.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Cirillo<\/a> in Nashville. My local bandmate Greg Abelar added bass from his Aptos home. <a href=\"http:\/\/dayankai.com\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dayan Kai<\/a> added dobro from his home in Maui. Our guitar player Joe Bac added harmony, also from his home studio. Then <a href=\"http:\/\/www.henrychadwick.net\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Henry Chadwick<\/a>, who&#8217;s been engineering our recent singles (see <a href=\"https:\/\/michaelgaither.bandcamp.com\/track\/no-more-tequila-for-santa\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;No More Tequila For Santa&#8221;<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/michaelgaither.bandcamp.com\/track\/monkey-town\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Monkey Town&#8221;<\/a>), added percussion and mixed\/mastered the track. <\/p>\n<p>Under the banner of &#8220;not every song has to be profound,&#8221; the single dropped in June onto <a href=\"https:\/\/michaelgaither.bandcamp.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bandcamp<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/6m0YbUjQaArKHec8F08a5f\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Spotify<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/artist\/michael-gaither\/id178242410\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Apple Music<\/a>, and all the usual streaming channels. A pretty fun, successful experiment. And we have another recorded-in-place project in the works now.
