Gurf first appeared on the show back in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/songs-stories-135-gurf-morlix\/\" target=\"_blank\">episode #135<\/a> and talked about (among other things) his time touring with the great <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Warren_Zevon\" target=\"_blank\">Warren Zevon<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gurfmorlix.com\/music\/blaze-foleys-113th-wet-dream\/\" target=\"_blank\">Blaze Foley tribute record<\/a>. In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/songs-and-stories-147-gurf-morlix-and-blackie-farrell\/\" target=\"_blank\">episode #147<\/a> he shared the mic with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/657270-Kevin-Blackie-Farrell\" target=\"_blank\">Blackie Farrell<\/a> and played from his then-new record &#8220;Eatin&#8217; At Me&#8221; while discussing Blackie&#8217;s debut record, &#8220;Cold Country Blues&#8221; that he was co-producing with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billkirchen.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Kirchen<\/a>. (Gurf and Blackie both appeared twice at a local concert series my wife and I ran for six years.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/soul-and-the-heal.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-6921\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/soul-and-the-heal-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"soul and the heal\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Gurf tours the west coast every spring. This past April, he played a house concert for us and played tunes from the new record. As with many of his past releases, Gurf wrote the bulk of this material in a cabin over the summertime, then, &#8220;honed&#8221; it all year before heading into his home studio. The result? &#8220;The Soul and the Heal&#8221; is another great Gurf effort with his trademark sound: Aside from Rick Richards on drums, a guest appearance from Ray Bonneville on harmonica, and Nick Connolloy on the B3 organ, Gurf plays everything. As always, it&#8217;s a compelling listen full of great songs. This episode includes the CD&#8217;s opening track &#8220;Deeper Down,&#8221; along with a live solo rendition of the record&#8217;s closer, &#8220;The Best That We Can&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/birth-to-boneyard.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-6920\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/birth-to-boneyard-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"birth to boneyard\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/birth-to-boneyard-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/birth-to-boneyard-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/birth-to-boneyard.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>As a bonus, this episode also features &#8220;Food, Water, Shelter &amp; Love&#8221; from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gurfmorlix.com\/music\/birth-to-boneyard\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Birth to Boneyard,&#8221;<\/a> an instrumental record Gurf recently released. If the tunes on that one sound familiar, it&#8217;s because Gurf took the songs from his 2007 record <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gurfmorlix.com\/music\/diamonds-to-dust\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Diamonds to Dust,&#8221;<\/a> stripped off the vocals, and made this purely instrumental take on the project.
