I *officially* met him when our band was playing (and hosting) music at Roudon-Smith Winery many years later. Annette, the winery owner, said &#8220;Fred Reiss just started working us. Let him know if you need anything&#8221;. I said, &#8220;THE Fred Reiss?&#8221; Yeah, he makes an impression. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Today_Ct_dream-copy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Today_Ct_dream-copy-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"Today_Ct_dream copy\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4750\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Today_Ct_dream-copy-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Today_Ct_dream-copy.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Fred is truly one of those &#8220;has done a bit of everything&#8221; kind of guys. Originally from New Jersey, he headed out to California back in the 80s and learned to surf, worked in radio, became a winemaker, and performed standup comedy. All along the way he was a writer. He&#8217;s since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fredforyourhead.com\/ebooks.html\" target=\"_blank\">self-published several novels<\/a>, a book of standup comedy insults (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Insult-Live-Ultimate-Abuser-Friendly-Guide\/dp\/0962386995\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Insult and Live&#8221;<\/a>), and his newest work, the nonfiction <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Fred-Reiss\/e\/B00DJTRAKM\/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Today Cancer &#8211; Tomorrow the World&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The book describes how Fred TWICE fought testicular cancer. Originally a series of daily blogs published at <a href=\"http:\/\/fredforyourhead.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">fredforyourhead.com<\/a>, Fred chronicled his latest treatment in a first-person, as-it&#8217;s-happening manner, praising the nurses and friends who helped him through it, and honestly documenting the pratfalls and challenges of dealing with the medical system. <\/p>\n<p>After his treatment &#8211; he&#8217;s six-months cancer-free as of this interview &#8211; Fred developed the blogs into &#8220;Today Cancer &#8211; Tomorrow the World&#8221;. The book is definitely not a maudlin recap of his treatment, nor is it a fluffy self-help tome. It&#8217;s a detailed account of what Fred when through before, during, and after treatment&#8230;and all along the way it&#8217;s filled with his very direct and very funny sense of humor. <\/p>\n<p>Appropriately enough, Fred and I met and chatted in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.capitolabookcafe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Capitola Book Cafe<\/a>, where I once purchased an autographed copy of &#8220;Insult and Live&#8221;. &#8220;Today Cancer &#8211; Tomorrow the World&#8221; is available as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Today-Cancer-Tomorrow-World-Reiss\/dp\/0962386952\/ref=sr_1_1_title_0_main?s=books&#038;ie=UTF8&#038;qid=1374079401&#038;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\">paperback<\/a> AND as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Today-Cancer-Tomorrow-World-ebook\/dp\/B00BZA5IVU\/ref=sr_1_1_title_1_kin?s=books&#038;ie=UTF8&#038;qid=1374079316&#038;sr=1-1\" target=\"_blank\">low-priced Kindle download<\/a>.
