I&#8217;ve been chatting Santa Cruz&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jimlewin.com\/Home.html\" target=\"_blank\">Jim Lewin<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greatamericantaxi.com\/\">The Great American Taxi<\/a> for months about trying to get together for an interview. Recently he called and said, &#8220;hey, we&#8217;re going to play on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kpig.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">KPIG<\/a>. Want to meet us there in ten minutes?&#8221; And it was that simple. I headed down to the station and did an interview (in two parts) with band members Chad Staehly, Brian Adams, Vince Herman, and Jim Lewin.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Local listeners know Jim Lewin as part of the bluegrass outfit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harmonygrits.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Harmony Grits<\/a>, as well as his sidework with songwriters like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lacyjdalton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lacy J. Dalton<\/a>. A few years back, he hooked up with Vince Herman, late of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leftoversalmon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Leftover Salmon<\/a>, and became a full-time member of The Great American Taxi. <\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.greatamericantaxi.com\/media\/photos\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/taxi-300x245.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\" \" width=\"300\" height=\"245\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2695\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/taxi-300x245.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/taxi.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<b>Vince Herman, Brian Adams, and Jim Lewin of Great American Taxi<\/b><br \/>\n<\/center><\/p>\n<p>The band straddles between the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jam_band\" target=\"_blank\">jam-band<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Americana_(music)\" target=\"_blank\">Americana<\/a> genres: They&#8217;re all great players but are each also fine songwriters in their own right. Their latest record, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artifactconcepts.com\/shops\/taxi\/home.php\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Paradise Lost&#8221;<\/a> is a different sort of effort. Produced by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.toddsnider.net\/fr_home.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">Todd Snider<\/a> &#8211; whom they now regularly perform with &#8211; the CD is a collection of songs that most of their fans haven&#8217;t heard. Being part of the jam-band scene, recording and trading of live shows is encouraged. With  &#8220;Paradise Lost&#8221;, they decided to record new songs that hadn&#8217;t been played out before.
