The good (and sometimes not-so-good) thing about people knowing that you foster dogs and cats at your house is that’s EXACTLY where a stray ends up. I was working at home last Christmas Eve morning. Our neighbor John brought this tiny, MAYBE 4-week old pup to our door and asked if we wanted it. A co-worker of his handed them out the day before. John’s wife said they couldn’t have FOUR dogs, so this pup was going to us…or the pound. We decided to take her in and were able to get her under AFRP’s wing.

We named her “Eve” (December 24th, remember?) and started a six-week run of broken sleep, house training from scratch, and repeated cleanings of every carpet in our home. My friend Jeff recently remarked, “Your carpets must be really clean.” Stumped, I asked, “Why?” Jeff said, “Because you’re always cleaning them.”

We got a good puppy fix out of it, though I did start getting nervous when applications DIDN’T immediately flood in…and when they did, they came from as far as Big Sur and Tiburon. (One thing I dig about AFRP is that before a dog is adopted out, a yard and fence check is done. It’s great volunteer work, but I wasn’t looking for a day-long road trip to check fences.)

The epilogue: “Evie” ended up with a very cool mom and daughter in La Salva Beach, just up the road from us. “Evie” is one of those “pick your favorite breed and you’ll see it in her”-type dogs. Some folks see German Shepherd or Lab in her. Others swear she’s Cattle Dog. And some insist she’s a Jack Russell terrier. Now that we can keep in touch with her owners, we’ll be able to find out what she vaguely resembles when she grows up.

Here on the homefront, it’s onto Spring. And kitten season.

Since most of my friends (real-world, virtual, or otherwise) know about our recent foster pup, “Evie” (click for pics), I […]

[5,11
12,13,15,14
post-243","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-blog","category-news","tag-dog","tag-dogs","tag-foster","tag-rescue
["GET
