(Claudia prefers story songs &#8211; and in her own words sounds more like &#8220;Guy Clark or John Prine on massive doses of estrogen&#8221; &#8211; rather than anything you&#8217;d hear on commercial country radio.) A one-time staff writer on Music Row, Claudia eventually decided that her heart was not in &#8220;radio friendly&#8221; love songs. She bought out her contract and starting writing what she wanted. (She soon after won the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.happenstance-music.com\/KFF_History.asp\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;New Folk&#8221;<\/a> award for her song &#8220;J.C.&#8221; at the 2004 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kerrvillefolkfestival.com\/newfolk.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Kerrville Music Festival<\/a>.)<br \/>\n<center><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.claudianygaard.com\/electronicpk.html\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/michaelgaither.com\/b2\/blogs\/media\/claudia.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>In this &#8220;Songs and Stories&#8221; episode, Claudia and I talk about what house concerts have brought to independent music, the good old days of vinyl records, and that ongoing argument about the &#8220;death of the CD&#8221; in the wake of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cddvdnow.com\/DropCards.htm\" target=\"_blank\">dropcards<\/a> and iPods. We also discuss her current release, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.claudianygaard.com\/hearthecd.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Somewhere Else to Go&#8221;<\/a>, and her new CD that&#8217;s in the works &#8211; and which you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.claudianygaard.com\/hearthecd.html\" target=\"_blank\">hear a preview of<\/a> on her web site.<\/p>\n<p>Claudia spends most of her playing time on the road.
