Besides obvious influences (his dad <a href=\"http:\/\/wc02.allmusic.com\/cg\/amg.dll\" target=\"_blank\">Jimmy Dale Gilmore<\/a> and folks like <a href=\"http:\/\/wc02.allmusic.com\/cg\/amg.dll\" target=\"_blank\">Joe Ely<\/a>), Colin talks about how choir, classical guitar, <a href=\"http:\/\/wc02.allmusic.com\/cg\/amg.dll\" target=\"_blank\">The Clash<\/a>, and even <a href=\"http:\/\/wc02.allmusic.com\/cg\/amg.dll?p=amg&amp;sql=10:w9fixq95ld6e\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Jackson&#8217;s &#8220;Thriller&#8221;<\/a> album also shaped his musical tastes.<\/p>\n<p>I visited with Colin in the middle of his first solo California tour.
