Say, for example, you’re at a honey farm down the road from where you live in Watsonville. And you’re wife says, “hey, you should play here.” And she asks the owner if they ever do events. And the owner says, “I’d like to, but I don’t know where to get anyone to play music…” And then you say, “Uhm…I live right over [points towards my house] there…”

That’s exactly how last Sunday’s “November-fest” at Pacific Crest Apiaries came about.

We had a great time playing, although I have to admit that the Indian summer weather kept things interesting. I swear it was 90 degrees during our drippy first set…until a thick blanket of Fall fog rolled in around 2:00 pm. I felt like Goldilocks (“It’s too hot…it’s too cold…it’s too hot”) as did my guitar refusing to stay in tune for most of the afternoon. Funny, though, my little antique ukulele stayed in perfect pitch all day, and I never even had to tweak the thing.

Besides a great afternoon of music and a guest appearance from Colin Gilmore, who will be featured in an upcoming episode of my “Songs and Stories” podcast, the event had a raffle which raised over $300 for Jacob’s Heart. Kudos to Ed and Dana Mumm for throwing a great party *and* raising some cash for a very worthwhile charity.

We’re winding down the year with a couple of gigs, and then I’m taking a little winter break. You can still see us at the East Village Coffee Lounge in Monterey on 11/17 and at the Corralitos Festival of Lights on 12/1. I’m also running the in-the-round at the Center Street Grill in Santa Cruz, as well. The next one is this Sunday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
