It&#8217;s always a kick playing on your favorite radio station. It&#8217;s also always a nice chance to check in with Sleepy John Sandidge, see what our pal Marky cooked up (literally) in the way of concessions &#8211; yesterday it was pineapple upside down cake &#8211; and hang out a bit with whoever is on the air that morning. <\/p>\n<p>Yesterday it was the Santa Cruz Sentinel&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wallacebaine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wallace Baine<\/a> doing one of his great on-air commentaries. Wallace was one of my favorite writers even before <a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/archives\/139\" target=\"_blank\">I wrote for the Sentinel<\/a> (two or three lifetimes ago). We visited for awhile, and then I stuck around to catch the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.austinlizards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Austin Lounge Lizard<\/a>s last KPIG appearance with Tom Pittman in the band. (We also caught their show at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kuumbwajazz.org\/index.php target=\"_blank\"\">Kuumbwa<\/a> the night before.)<\/p>\n<p>Out on the KPIG deck, Pittman says his retirement has helped ticket sales. I suggested that perhaps Conrad Dielser should leave the band next,  followed by Hank Card, and then they can get back together and do a comeback tour, like Cher. Pittman thought it was a good idea, and added, &#8220;Yeah, but to do it like Cher, we&#8217;d have to get major cosmetic surgery before each tour.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/DSCF4390.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/DSCF4390-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"DSCF4390\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1655\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/DSCF4390-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.michaelgaither.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/DSCF4390-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\n<b>Aaron Bagchee, Michael Gaither, and Sleepy John Sandidge at KPIG<\/b><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Music-wise, Greg, Aaron, and I played three new songs that&#8217;ll be on the next record&#8230;er, whenever that happens. Here&#8217;s a clip of &#8220;Still A Small Town&#8221;, the best excuse I could think of to explain why I&#8217;m still living here in the same place where I was born.
