Watch this space in the coming months for a run of adoptable dogs that fit nicely into the “small and cute” category. Our latest is “Kia”, most likely named after the car<\/a>. Kind of appropriate, since she’s also from Taiwain. Animal Friends Rescue Project (AFRP)<\/a>, the west coast organization we volunteer with, has been given an influx of dogs from the Taichung Universal Animal Protection Association (TUAPA) <\/a> in Taiwan. “Kia” is a Silkie, and not a Yorkshire Terrier, as first appearances might indicate. (Yorkie’s were actually bred from Silkie’s.) <\/p>\n

Also note: Kia is not a chicken, as a casual search on Wikipedia <\/a>would lead you to believe. <\/p>\n

Kia’s a great little dog. Very much a lapster (she hopes up, cuddles, and is fast off to sleep.) She’s about three years old, is 90% housebroken, and gets along with our other dogs quite well. We have noticed she’s VERY interested in the neighbor’s cat, which can’t always be a good thing. (Though I’ve found a good swat or two from said cat quickly puts most dogs into sub-alpha mode.)
