2\/19 update:<\/strong> Mokai will be on KZSC at 1:00 pm. (88.1 in Santa Cruz or kzsc.org on the web). And our very dear friend Hawk will be a surprise guest doing a couple of songs to kick off the second set. <\/p>\n

Er…okay, I guess it’s not a surprise now.<\/p>\n

Original post:<\/strong> Every live show is fun, whether it’s with the band (lots of support there), solo (love that “live without a net” kinda thing), or these in-the-rounds I’m doing at the Corralitos Cultural Center<\/a> with other songwriters. These are fun because you might have a suspicion what the next player will do, but you never quite<\/strong> know for sure. There’s also the added luxury of not having to make a set list. You totally wing it based on the mood of the song that was played previously (i.e., the songwriter before you plays a ballad, so you play a ballad…or you just break the mood and play something funny and fast.) Never dull. Always fun. <\/p>\n

Note: The term “in the round” no doubt evolved from (literal) song circles, where players sat in a circle and passed the guitar…or at least passed the “who’s playing next” motif counterclockwise. <\/p>\n

This Sunday kicks off the first show of the year out in Corralitos. I’ll be joined by Michelle Chappel<\/a> and my pal Mokai<\/a>. I met Michelle at a songwriter’s gathering a few years ago. She’s got lots of energy, a bagful of fun, uplifting songs, and is just a treat to share a stage with. I met Mokia when he literally camped next to my wife and I at the Strawberry Music Festival. Mokai’s a great songwriter and an awesome fingerstyle player. I’ve been looking for an excuse to get together with him for quite awhile now. <\/p>\n

This Sunday’s show runs 6:00-9:00 pm. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Suggested donation (sliding scale) is $10-$20 at the door. The Cultural Center is at 129 Hames Road in Watsonville<\/a>.<\/p>\n
