At the time, &#8220;Spotted Mule and Other Tales&#8221; was about one third of the way towards being a CD. Looking back, this site evolved into a blog-filled diary centered around the notion of &#8220;How do you make a CD and then what do you do with it?&#8221;, along with some of the hoops I jumped through in the process. Here are some highlights:<\/p>\n<ul><\/p>\n<li>First, you finally get over the notion that having your own web site is just incredibly pretentious and that you do have a real use for one: <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelgaither.com\/b2\/blogs\/index.php?blog=2&amp;title=me_dot_com&amp;more=1&amp;c=1&amp;tb=1&amp;pb=1\" target=\"_blank\">Me Dot Com<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/p>\n<li>You explain the lyrics behind some of the songs: <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelgaither.com\/b2\/blogs\/index.php?blog=2&amp;title=baby_emma&amp;more=1&amp;c=1&amp;tb=1&amp;pb=1\" target=\"_blank\">Baby Emma<\/a>. You also explain that, yes, you really did write for Jay Leno: <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelgaither.com\/b2\/blogs\/index.php?blog=2&amp;title=i_even_wrote_for_jay_leno_one_time&amp;more=1&amp;c=1&amp;tb=1&amp;pb=1\" target=\"_blank\">I Even Wrote for Jay Leno One Time&#8230;<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/p>\n<li>You figure out how to pay for that one cover song: <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelgaither.com\/b2\/blogs\/index.php?blog=2&amp;title=runnin_down_a_copyright&amp;more=1&amp;c=1&amp;tb=1&amp;pb=1\" target=\"_blank\">I Owe Tom Petty $15.16<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/p>\n<li>You finish the last track: <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelgaither.com\/b2\/blogs\/index.php?blog=2&amp;title=some_bright_morning&amp;more=1&amp;c=1&amp;tb=1&amp;pb=1\" target=\"_blank\">Some Bright Morning<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/p>\n<li>You drive to Castro Valley and bring home a carload of CDs: <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelgaither.com\/b2\/blogs\/index.php?blog=2&amp;title=one_thousand_cds&amp;more=1&amp;c=1&amp;tb=1&amp;pb=1\" target=\"_blank\">One Thousand CDs<\/a>\n<p>Note: This one is worth it just for your wife&#8217;s reaction: &#8220;One thousand CDs?! What the heck were you thinking?!&#8221; (She&#8217;s much better with the whole idea when you explain that it&#8217;s cheaper this way.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/p>\n<li>You post the lyrics on your web site: <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelgaither.com\/b2\/blogs\/index.php?blog=2&amp;title=mama_was_a_road&amp;more=1&amp;c=1&amp;tb=1&amp;pb=1\" target=\"_blank\">Mama Was A Road?<\/a><\/li>\n<p>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/p>\n<li>You start getting airplay: <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelgaither.com\/b2\/blogs\/index.php?blog=2&amp;title=radio_radio_yeah_airplay&amp;more=1&amp;c=1&amp;tb=1&amp;pb=1<br \/>\n&#8221; target=&#8221;_blank&#8221;>Radio Radio<\/a>  And your first real review: <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelgaither.com\/b2\/blogs\/index.php?blog=2&amp;title=ray_randall_reviews_spotted_mule_and_oth&amp;more=1&amp;c=1&amp;tb=1&amp;pb=1\" target=\"_blank\">Ray Randall Reviews Spotted Mule and Other Tales<\/a><\/li>\n<p>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/p>\n<li>You have a CD-release party at your favorite local winery: <a href=\"http:\/\/michaelgaither.com\/b2\/blogs\/index.php?blog=2&amp;title=some_party&amp;more=1&amp;c=1&amp;tb=1&amp;pb=1\" target=\"_blank\">Some Party<\/a><\/li>\n<p>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/p>\n<li>Finally, you make a fortune selling all your CDs and retire early. Okay, maybe you don&#8217;t retire early.
