I discovered AmericanaRoots.com<\/a>, Ray Randall, and the Randall’s Random Review<\/a> podcast a few months ago. Each week, Ray picks two new CDs and posts half-hour reviews of well-known (Darrell Scott<\/a>, Todd Snider<\/a>, Fred Eaglesmith<\/a>) and not-so-well-known (Amy LaVere<\/a>, The Ginn Sisters<\/a>) Americana songwriters. <\/p>\n

This week, Ray reviews songs from a handful of the latter half, including yours truly. Ray says he used to live in Los Gatos (he’s based in Washington state these days), so he picked Highway 17<\/a>, my rant about the windy road that connects Santa Cruz and San Jose. It’s a localized song, but if you’ve ever encountered a bad driver (anyone?), there’s something in it for you. He really liked the story aspect of the song and has some very cool (flattering, actually) things to say about the “Highway 17” and the story songs on the rest off my CD, Spotted Mule and Other Tales<\/a>. <\/p>\n
