Well, we were *supposed* to play here tonight. Unfortunately, the E3 Playhouse closed its doors on Wednesday after losing a 6-1 vote at Tuesday night’s city council meeting. We happened to be downtown this afternoon, and I noticed that E3’s doors were open. I walked in, watched the kitchen being gutted, and took a sad, last look around. As a local musician, all I can say is I’m very sorry to see the place go. Wes Anthony put together a club where local folks could play on a regular basis. I wish him the best.

I’m not going to editorialize. This article in last Wednesday’s Santa Cruz Sentinel relays the details of the Tuesday meeting and includes the history of how the controversy evolved. I recommend you check out the reader comments and form your own opinion. The comments run the usual gamut of pro/con statements about both the city and the club, as well as the usual over-reactionary kind of things you’ll see in an online forum.

In the meantime, me and the band are busy. Check my Shows page to see where we’re playing next.
