One of the fun things about mashing a lot of music folk together is that you never quite know what spontaneous playings might occur…or who might suddenly show up at your late-night showcase and join you in song. Case in point: Sideman Extraordinare Joel Tepp, a clarinet, and my cell phone song, “Hang It Up”. Here’s me basically running on adrenalin fumes:

This clip takes place at the break of Saturday morning during the FAR-West conference last October in Santa Clara, CA. After a long, fun Friday spent schmoozing with music pals, attending a few panels, and MC’ing one of the premiere showcases, I ended up in the Canyon Cantina showcase around 1:30 am. Joel showed up at the beginning of my set and added harmonica and slide guitar to a few tunes. For this last song, I said, “well, what else have ya got?” And he ran back to his pile of musical goodies, returning with a clarinet.
