For some odd reason, my satellite provider doesn’t consider our closest ABC affiliate a “local channel”, so we couldn’t watch the Oscars last night. (I won’t specifically trash the provider, but between you and me, it rhymes with “wish”…as in, “I wish we could watch the Oscars, but we have the DISH network”.)

Doesn’t matter, really. I’d seen the big winner, No Country For Old Men and really didn’t care for it. I loved Juno but knew it was too charming and clever to win the major awards. And Once was only nominated for best song.

But what a song. And what an acceptance speech. And what a classy move on the part of host Jon Stewart bringing back Marketa Irglova so she could “enjoy your moment” after the band cut her off for a commercial break. Here’s all of the ceremony I need to see, courtesy of YouTube:

Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova sing “Falling Slowly” on the 2008 Oscars

As Irglova said when Stewart brought her back on stage, “Fair play to those who dare to dream”. Pretty inspiring stuff.
